The Old Scarecrow
"Lantern Jack takes many forms and his intentions are mysterious...
When the late summer sun blazes and the corn sags on its stalk, Lantern Jack awakens as the Old Scarecrow. Seeming to appear ominously, the Old Scarecrow is said to emerge from corn fields in the dead of night when the summertide has begun to wane and the crickets begin their nightly songs. Given life from the void by the faint redolence of approaching Autumn, the Old Scarecrow observes the terrain of Halloween-yet-to-come and plans accordingly.
On the last day of August in the year 1972, a small Midwest town was said to have been menaced by the presence of the Old Scarecrow. Several adults and children alike reported unsettling encounters with a gnarled, burlap cloaked figure that stood motionless in the cornfields, backyards and cemeteries of the small town. A few individuals brave enough to approach the interloper reported that after a few steps they were "strongly compelled" to stop moving towards the Old Scarecrow and quickly returned to their homes, shaken by their inexplicable experience.
Two months later, on the night of All Hallows Eve, the houses that were visited by the Old Scarecrow each reported a missing family member. Curiously though, their absence was not lamented."
Cast in solid black resin and individually hand painted , The Old Scarecrow is the tallest piece to be offered by the Order of the Thinned Veil to date. Standing at 10.5" tall, this imposing denizen of the cornfield will make a fine addition to your growing collection of Jacklings and Trick or Treaters!
